The Latimerlo Studio

Developed in real time at a real preschool, our Preschool Music program is perfect for schools looking to introduce their kids to the important concepts of music in a fun, interactive way.  Our teachers are experienced, passionate, and love kids!

We cover three different aspects of music: rhythm, melody, and instruments.  For our rhythm semester, we practice and play along each week to a song that has a particular rhythmic emphasis -- fast, slow, duple, triple, syncopated beats, as well as those that emphasize whole, half, or quarter notes.  There is an educational method at work, but the kids just know that they are banging out a good time!

For our melody semester, we use our bodies and scarves to really feel how different melodies work.  We also listen to, play with, and dance to a number of different musical scales from around the world.

All year, we are fine-tuning our ears by learning to accurately sing a few specific songs, as well as expanding our ears by listening, playing, and dancing to lots of different music from lots of  different parts of  the world -- including Latin America, Asia, Africa, and more. We also introduce instruments throughout the year.  We all have a chance to see and play wind, string, and percussion instruments.  As part of the experience, students even get the chance to make their own to instruments to take home!  In each class, we integrate some structured time with free-play time with instruments and dancing.
